As Switzerland steps up its digital transition, 42 Lausanne is starting the new academic year with a new cohort of students ready to tackle the technological challenges of tomorrow. The press release published on 29 September 2025 highlights the school’s key figures, notable projects and national ambitions.

A rigorous selection process for a free programme open to all

With over 1,982 applications received for this academic year, 42 Lausanne confirms the appeal of its unique educational model. Following an online aptitude test, eligible candidates join the ‘Piscine’, a month-long intensive immersion course in programming. At the end of this programme, 144 students were admitted, bringing the total number of learners trained since the campus opened in 2021 to over 897.

A campus at the heart of innovation

Located at Station R, the hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in western Lausanne in Renens, the 42 Lausanne campus offers 650 m² of collaborative space, shared with start-ups and tech companies. Open 24/7 and equipped with 200 top-of-the-range iMacs, it embodies an agile, immersive teaching approach focused on market needs.

A year rich in partnerships and events

The past year has seen more than 100 events, including hackathons, workshops and sector-specific meetings. Among them:

  • The ‘The Ethical Cloud’ hackathon with Infomaniak

  • The ‘Women in Fintech’ event with Vaud Place Financière

  • A hackathon with HSG Entrepreneurship in St Gallen

These immersive formats enable students to work on real-world challenges, often proposed by partner companies.

Inclusion, AI and digital sovereignty: 42’s priorities

42 Lausanne is strengthening its commitment to diversity, with 17 per cent of the new intake being women, and is now incorporating artificial intelligence modules into its core curriculum. The school trains experts capable of designing secure, independent Swiss solutions that address the challenges of digital sovereignty.

A national ambition

With the forthcoming opening of the 42 Zurich campus and closer ties with the Geneva ecosystem, 42 Lausanne is extending its impact across Switzerland. The school is also developing services for businesses: hackathons, bespoke training courses, skills development workshops… all of which are tools to support the digital transformation of the economy.
