Innovation Lab with SPEN
The Prison Service has partnered with 42 Lausanne as part of an IA Innovation Lab to integrate digitalisation into the heart of its business processes, as well as to help prepare prisoners for their reintegration into society.
Issues
To prepare prisoners for reintegration into an increasingly digital society.
Reducing the heavy burden of tasks with low personal value (manual data entry).
Improve working and detention conditions by increasing staff availability for high-value-added tasks.
Technical solutions
Develop a prototype capable of integrating into the existing cantonal IT environment.
Digitise handwritten data from staff and prisoners in accordance with security rules and the legal framework.
Provide an intuitive and user-friendly tool, suitable for users with limited digital skills.
Deliverables
The POC (proof of concept), developed over a weekend, was presented to policy-makers, who approved the concept and allocated a budget for the project to continue. This digitalisation of the Vaud prison system will be a key element in the modernisation and organisation of life in Vaud’s prisons.
Testimonial
Anne Nguyen, Director of Innovation and Development, Prison Service, Canton of Vaud
“In just one weekend, the teams from 42 turned an idea into a working prototype. Their efficiency and understanding of our situation demonstrate just how much digitalisation can genuinely support the work of professionals on the ground and facilitate the reintegration of prisoners.”
