Why 42 Lausanne is launching a winter Piscine

42 Lausanne— Blog· 02 Nov 2026

To attract more women to the tech sector, 42 Lausanne is adapting its programme and activities.

This year, we are organising another ‘Piscine’ event in February, in addition to the one at the start of the autumn term.
We have made this decision to better meet the needs of our female audience. Until now, the ‘Piscine’ event has taken place in the summer, a time when women with families are much less available due to the school holidays. A session outside the summer allows them to enrol without having to reorganise everything.
This winter intake also has an impact on our figures. Admissions are now spread throughout the year, whereas they used to be concentrated in September. The number of students enrolled at the start of the autumn term is therefore no longer sufficient to account for the annual volume of admissions.

Other initiatives
Changing the timetable is not enough to remove all barriers. Many women do not see themselves as suited to tech, or do not dare to take the plunge. That is why the Winter Introductory Course is accompanied by other measures. We run awareness-raising initiatives to promote the course: Discovery Piscine (an introductory course for women only), open days, Pataugeoire (a course for 12- to 16-year-olds), professional events (Women in Fintech), and partnerships with organisations.
See the calendar of 100% women’s events.
Once the course has started, we offer support through a community of female students and discussion groups. Finally, we ensure a supportive working environment through a code of conduct and a designated contact person in case of any issues.

Current and former students share their stories because it’s easier to picture your own future when you see someone who’s followed the same path.
